Phonological awareness and naming speed deficits in Chinese children with developmental dyslexia

Dyslexia is a learning disorder that impairs a child’s ability to read and write. It has lifelong persistence, affecting 3% to 10% of the population. To minimize the detrimental effects of dyslexia, early diagnosis at the youngest possible age is of vital importance. However, few studies have comprehensively investigated early indicators of dyslexia. The current study is intended to fill this gap. Using Electroencephalography, we carefully reveal how the dyslexic brain deviates from normal development in processing auditory (speech) and visual (print) information, thus contributing to a diagnostic tool that can be easily applied at the start of reading acquisition.
