My sub-project aims at testing the language-specificity hypothesis of metrical segmentation for native language acquisition, in infants aged 4, 6 and 8 months. We investigate the emergence of rhythmic bias and segmentation in infants learning metrically opposed languages: Turkish (final stress) versus Dutch (initial/prefinal stress). Using eye-tracking, we test rhythmic preferences, rhythmic discrimination, and metrical segmentation.
